Interesting Art by Danni Shinya Luo

February 03, 2010 By: DancingSamurai Category: Arts

Via BoingBoing, I saw this video interview with a pretty interesting young artist, Danni Shinya Luo. I don’t think my wife would approve of having her art around, but it is quite remarkable!

Copyright in commissioned photos

July 18, 2009 By: DancingSamurai Category: Musings

So we took our little 1-month old baby to get photos (yay!) at the local Wal-Mart (boo! – but our neighbour who is a great photographer works there). We got into a little discussion regarding (what else) copyright, and ownership of photos so commissioned.

UPDATE: Wow, this post seems to have made it to #1 on Google on the subject, and is my most popular page this week. I guess I should clarify that the below is regarding Canadian (and I believe UK) law. The default in the US (where many of my visitors are likely from) is actually the opposite, i.e. commissioned photos’ copyrights rest with the photographer in the absence of an agreement otherwise.

Catching up

January 29, 2009 By: DancingSamurai Category: Links

Well, I’m at the hospital on my second call shift as staff. It’s pretty quiet, but because of the weather and the fact that I have a labouring (if in early labour) patient here, I can’t go home. So, what better time than now to get caught up on my blog reading, and my highlighting of interesting / depressing / infuriating stories for you, oh my readers (both of you!)

So, here we go, with the things that caught my eye:

Shadowfax points out this amazing collection of photography:

The Big Picture’s Year in Review. Amazing, sad, and beautiful. You need to check it out. It’s a three part series: Part One, Part Two, Part Three.

Hallowe’en Pictures Posted

November 01, 2008 By: DancingSamurai Category: My Life

Pictures (and videos!) of my Hallowe’en escapades have been posted. We had lots of kids come by, although not as many as we had thought. The lack of sidewalk on this side of the street and us being a corner house probably had something to do with that.

Anyway, it was fun, we met some more of our neighbours…

Now, what to do with all that leftover candy…??

Landscaping pt 2

September 22, 2008 By: DancingSamurai Category: My Life

*phew* that was a tiring weekend! But with my father-in-law’s help, we finished the first bit of landscaping, a little stone border around our walkway and a low retaining wall around the front of the house, and some square borders around the trees on my lot. The house really looks much nicer now!
I’ll put up some pictures in the gallery when I get home tonight!

Other than that, today I’m locuming for an MD I work with in Brampton… my first day as a fully independent MD, how about that? … Well it’s a group practice so help is just down the hall if I need it, but so far, so good!

Rapid update time… what’s been in the blog-o-sphere (or at least, the tiny corner of it that I read?)

Graduation Pictures

June 11, 2006 By: DancingSamurai Category: My Life

Well, I graduated just a few days ago! Now I’m officially a Doctor! (scary!!). Anyway, I have a few pictures of the event up in my gallery.

I also put up a quckly edited video — I was limited by the fact that the source material was filmed by someone who apparently believes videotape costs a pound of gold per second shot and thus was very sparse with the filming. :(

I will try and get some video up of our Dominican trip, but that may take a while…
