Lady of Shadows (2000)
I wrote this poem on the way down to TO to visit an old, old friend. A highschool crush. You know how it goes, when you find out later that you both liked each other but nothing really ever happened for some obscure reason that now seems totally silly? And how that you always find out too late, like when you’re living in different cities? And how when I finally move down to TO, she’s out in BC? Yeah. One of those. Am I bitter at the world? Noooooo. Not at all. Really.
Apparently, she hates poetry. Which I didn’t know until she told me AFTER I wrote, memorized, and recited the thing to her. Well, so much for my luck.
I guess it gives me some hope though, she still liked me anyway. :)
Ah, Rachel. Now, if she would reply to her e-mails once in a while… I can dream, can’t I? :-/

her raven mane settles around her
like the mysterious darkness of true night.
The twin stars that are her eyes
shine brightly with the keenness of her mind
that searches for a twisted truth
in all that she encounters.
Her sweet, sweet, curved lips
gleefully share her knowledge with the world.
Simply being in her sarcastic yet buoyant aura
banishes darkness
and makes your days burn as brightly as the sun.
