About DancingSamurai!

Me! (not)

This is ME! Ok, ok, so not really. The photo is pending. However, because no good photograph of me can exist — trust me on this, it would defy the very nature of the universe — don’t hold your breath. ;)So who is this guy, anyway? Well, a little bit of history first: I was born in Hungary; my family moved around a bit – fleeing opression and all that other excellent fun – so I got to see something of Libya and Switzerland before we finally came to Canada, and some other countries when my well-travelled parents took me along on vacations. As a consequence, I speak a number of languages to greater or lesser (mostly lesser) extent – English, French, Hungarian, German, and Pig Latin for example.Since I arrived in Canada I’ve been busying myself with the pursuit of knowledge. Luckily my cranium is rather well suited to this task, and I’ve managed to soak up quite a bit about computers, science, math, female anatomy, the effects of alcohol on cognitive ability, the guitar-strumming seduction technique and other such scholarly subjects.

Back when I was in University, this worked really well for attracting the women – they all wanted to spend so much time with me and learn about everything I like! As an interesting aside, if one analyses the amount of time women were seeking to get my attention, it can be seen to be cyclical, with peaks in December and April and a rather disheartening low (i.e. absolutely no interest) from May to August. Some might see a correlation of this cycle with academic examination schedules and infer that the attention of the above women is not amorous but instead based on crass self-interest, i.e. a need to pass exams. But, as they always say, correlation does not equal causation, and attributing causation would need facts my psyche choses to ignore — therefore the theory is thus preposterous and to be dismissed. The cycle thus remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of the Universe. ;)

Currently I am twenty-seven eight (ack!) years old and finishing my Family Medicine residency at McMaster University. I hold a Medical degree from the University of Toronto, an undergraduate degree from the University of Ottawa, and am never, ever, sick at sea. I am still trying to figure out where I go as a next step, but passing my exams and making sure none of my patients die (well, at least as a result of my (in)actions) has been a little more pressing.

My personal interests lie in good books, music (anything with a melody/cool beat – oldies, techno, whatever. No rap or bubble gum pop – I like to enjoy my music), movies, and other art forms (like Opera!), though I’ve been rather lax in my pursuing of them lately — too much work. Or maybe it’s the computer games.;)

I like to tinker with pretty much anything that has to do with computers. I swim when I work up the motivation, and play the odd squash game. I have been trying to return to one of my favourite activities, swing dancing! Since I have been gifted with two left feet and a seeming uncanny ability to almost, but not quite, have a complete lack of co-ordination, my “dancing” is… how shall I put it, amusing? The Hammer Hoppers here in Hamilton have an excellent setup, but on-call nights and studying have kept me from my passion a little too much of late.

Generally I’m busy with school, but I slack off by playing with all my computer equipment. Which I likely spent far too much money on. Luckily the banks are nice to residents, but loans get expensive. And I need to save some money so I can eat. And entertain my wife. Did I mention eating?

Well, have fun on my site, and if you have any comments, questions, suggestions, business propositions, hate mail, or vile insults, I can be tracked down via my contact form.

(Oh, and if you’re wondering, why “DancingSamurai”, well, the dancing bit should be obvious by now. The Samurai bit reflects my love of all things fantasy, medieval, Japanese… and so on. This is actually the first alias I’ve found that I like…)
