A real Science Fiction movie?

August 13, 2009 By: DancingSamurai Category: Arts

Well, District 9 looks interesting, in the back-to-basics, storytelling Sci-Fi sort of way (as opposed to the ‘big explosions oooh pretty’ that Hollywood has a tendency to run with). Besides Star Trek, has there been a good Science Fiction yarn to hit the big screen lately? (via ReelViews)

I think what often happens with Science Fiction films is that Hollywood spends more time and effort on the special effects than on storyline. Star Trek thankfully, was an exception to the rule; both storyline and effects were equally amazing.

The premise of District 9 definitely looks intriguing, and I’m cautiously optimistic that with Peter Jackson (LOTR trilogy/King Kong) at the helm as producer, that the film will live up to the promise of the trailer.
