Mature Women’s Health Care Conference

April 24, 2009 By: DancingSamurai Category: My Life

I’m at the Mature Women’s Health Care CME course offered by Mount Sinai (in Toronto) today. The last time I was here, it was a great course (except for the injection of an evidence-free acupuncture-for-infertility talk).

I’ll let you know how the course goes as the day proceeds… first up, ? Screeening for Ovarian / Uterine Cancer!

08:30 – Ovarian & endometrial cancer screening would be great, if we had some good screening tests, but we don’t. Focus on prevention (in high risk patients) & appropriate diagnosis in a symptomatic pt.

09:30 – Osteoporosis Update – Latest thinking in osteoporosis – use BMD as a risk factor along with age, and glucocorticoid use and hx of fragility factor to divide pts into Low/Medium/High risk and treat accordingly.

10:00 – Ho-hum review of breast cancer risk/screening recommendations. Also reviewed was MRI for breast cancer screening – bottom line: only for very high risk (i.e. BRCA mutation carriers)
