Router UPnP issues
I’m using DD-WRT firmware for my linksys router — it’s got tons of features, including QoS which helps with my VoIP connection when I’m doing some intense downloading off the net.
I’ve just about given up getting UPnP working with the thing though. It just doesn’t work with Windows XP. I can get it to show up for a few minutes — sometimes — in the Network Connections box, and even the test program at this site can’t really help me any more. Oddly enough, the Azureus client running on my linux box detects the UPnP just fine. I’m pretty fed up with the whole thing.
I would switch back to the linksys firmware and try that but a) the UPnP not working is why I switched AWAY from it in the first place and b) I’m loathe to give up the QoS features / etc. that I’m pretty sure aren’t in the linksys firmware. *sigh*
I’m trying to get Ubuntu working on my desktop. Maybe I just need to switch away from Microsoft crap. Of course, all of that takes time… which I really don’t have. Which is why lately I’m really thinking of consciously moving away from all my hacker roots and towards stuff that ‘just works’.
Does anyone know of a good, affordable, Wireless router, with UPnP and QoS that actually WORKS?
[UPDATE]: Apparently rebooting my computer fixed it. For now. *sigh*. How unreliable is that?
