Misc. Updates
Well… Iguess I should mention that Medicine is done. I started on surgery earlier this week, which is OK so far… we’ve had lots of surgical skills teaching in the last couple of days so I’m semi-comfortable stitching up a dummy and inserting a chest tube through some pork ribs… :)
Otherwise it’s pretty much par for the course. My old Duron 750 compaq is sitting downstairs in the living room hooked up to my old speakers to act as a bit of a jukebox should be need it, since we have no TV right now. Windoze won’t install on it (any flavour) and I had problems with both Ubuntu and SuSE. *sigh*. That machine just has some hardware thing going on. If I get some time I’ll throw Gentoo back on it which I know works fine. Right now it’s running off a Knoppix boot CD which is OK — just won’t go higher than 800×600 resolution for some reason.
I’m also gonna try and throw linux onto my laptop just to play with a while. I should start moving away from Windows since it’s a lot less secure. You stumble across the wrong internet site and BOOM, you’ve got the trojan/virus of the day… *sigh*
Some interesting tidbits — I wanted to see how much power my dual 19″ LCD monitor + CPU actually consume. I found this Saving Electricity site… and it seems even with maxxing out what I think I use, my comp should take only like $7-8 per month. My server maybe another $4 / month. So I really can’t understand our $500+ hydro bills… :(
I guess I really need to get that dripping tap fixed, eh?
